In your life you need balance to have peace. Excess in things whether good or bad will cause you to be imbalanced.

  1. Another great post, Eugenia! You really took us to church on this one, and congratulations for managing to keep yourself healthy for so long with Type I Diabetes. There is so much fear mongering these days that people don’t want to take the balanced, slow and steady approach to anything, especially when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. When people are afraid they don’t move and change feels impossible.

Some years ago, I lost 100lbs in 11 months and kept it off for close to 3 years, but gained it back after a series of unfortunate events and being in an accident. I kept hoping and berating myself for not being able to do it the same way this time around, but then I started doing a little bit at a time and it has made all the difference. My first step was to drop the sugar because I was physically addicted to it, then something really great happened, I was able to eat in a more balanced way. The weight is coming off much more slowly this time around, but habits are sticking. It’s so easy to get caught up in the hype, but this is a lifelong pursuit. Your approach to life is so refreshing, thanks for sharing.

    • I’m glad you enjoyed it. My doc told me once that yes, being healthy is a lifestyle and not to beat myself up if everyday I wasn’t perfect. I’m about 40lbs over my ideal weight right now and it’s not where I want to be so I decided to lose but not be anal about it. My body has actually been good to me so before I lose it, I have to love it. Although I’m not a big sugar eater b/c of my diabetes, I don’t deny myself a treat every once awhile. I don’t eat that maple bacon doughnut everyday but I’ll be damned if I won’t eat it the once or twice I get to Portland. It’s about balance.
